Raanik's Inspiration and Aspirations

Raanik as a Designer
Interests and Inspiration
From quite a young age I have always been interested in architectural design and landscape design.  Beautiful homes and massive buildings have always intrigued me and made me feel inspired to create and design buildings just like it.  I don't think i have one favourite architect or designer, but rather like to look at specific details from lots of different builds and find inspiration from there.  The style of design and architecture that I like is very modern and a bit industrial.  I like the use of concrete and glass to integrate natural light and shadows into the design.  I like clean, sharp yet flowing lines that make the building feel peaceful.  For me, architectural design has always been orientated around the design and creation of houses, which is where I used to imagine my career after completing university.  But after traveling and experiencing more of the world, the idea of working in a team on lager projects such as airports, sky scraper residences and other infrastructure is becoming more and more appealing to me.  Here is some of the work from one designer that I like the style of.
Goals and Aspirations
Throughout my degree I want to not only improve my design specific skills, but also skills that I will end up using in the workplace.  some of the design specific skills I want to improve are my technical drawing skills, my graphic design skills and learning how to create good looking and effective renders.  Some of the less design focused skills that I want to build upon are time management and the ability to work even more effectively in group situations.  Upon completion of my degree, I want to move and work overseas.  I feel like the opportunities are plentiful and getting to life in a place outside of New Zealand will be fun and exciting.  Owning my own design or architecture business would also be really cool.  Not only because of the experience and the things I would learn but it would also allow me to be more free and flexible with my time and creativity.  I hope that by the end of my course I have gained the suitable skills to start my design career and see where it takes me.
